2023 in Review: AIADA is Advocating for You
The past year saw many developments from Washington, D.C. and AIADA has been hard at work advocating on issues of importance to America’s international nameplate dealers. The following is a snapshot of where things stood as we ended 2023 and head into 2024.
FTC Finalizes CARS Rule; Congress Wraps Up for the Year
This week the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced it had finalized a new rule, which will take effect on July 30, 2024, that it claims will fight “bait-and-switch” tactics and hidden junk fees, and bar misrepresentations about price and the total cost of a vehicle.
House Passes CARS Act
On Wednesday the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act in a largely party-line vote. AIADA released a statement lauding the vote and urging the Senate to pass its version of the legislation. Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) spoke in favor of the legislation on the House floor.
Treasury Releases New EV Tax Credit Guidance; Hearing on Choice in Automobile Retail Sales Act
This week the U.S. Department of the Treasury released the latest guidance on rules governing which vehicles can qualify for the EV Tax Credit come January 1, when the latest rules take effect
Oversight Committee Investigates FTC Dealer Rule; Congress Avoids Government Shutdown, Adjourns
This week the House Oversight Committee announced it would investigate new rules regulating car dealerships by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Committee Chairman Jamers Comer (R-Ky.) has requested the FTC turn over documents and answer questions by Nov. 30.
