President Trump Signs USMCA into Law
The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) was signed by President Trump earlier this week. AIADA released a statement expressing relief that the period of uncertainty surrounding the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was coming to an end.
USMCA Passes Senate, Heads to President's Desk
The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) passed the Senate on Thursday by an overwhelming bipartisan majority of 89-10. AIADA released a statement recognizing the importance of a North American trade pact for auto dealers and their customers.
Senate Finance Committee Passes USMCA
The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) passed the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday by a bipartisan vote of 25-3. The agreement must now be voted on by six other Senate committees, most of which are expected to do so next week. But a quick Senate passage has been put in jeopardy by today's announcement by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that she will send articles of impeachment to the Senate. If the Senate impeachment trial begins soon, as many expect, the final vote on USMCA could be pushed back significantly.
USMCA Passes House: Senate Vote Next Year
Yesterday, in its last vote of 2019, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) by a bipartisan vote of 385-41. The Senate is not expected to vote on the agreement until after the New Year, a timeline made difficult to forecast due to expected ongoing impeachment actions.
Deal Reached on USMCA, House to Vote Next Week
An eleventh hour deal was struck earlier this week on changes to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that would secure additional Democratic votes in the House, and those changes have been accepted by NAFTA partners, Canada and Mexico. The House is expected to vote on the agreement before they leave Washington for the holidays on December 20th, though the Senate is not expected to vote on the agreement until after the New Year.
