For nearly 40 years, the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) has served as Washington, D.C.'s only advocate for international nameplate dealers. We have represented auto dealers before Congress, the White House, and federal agencies since 1970, when we were founded to counteract a dangerous protectionist movement.
Since then, we have been a steady and unflinching presence in D.C., increasing awareness of the international automobile industry's contribution to this country. As chairman of AIADA, I am proud of our record, and confident that we will continue our good work for at least another 40 years.
And we couldn't have done any of it without you.
Dealers are our driving force and the reason for our influence. Dealer participation in AIADA's programs and events is overwhelming. Even during this past year, with the economy in the tank, dealers continue to see the larger picture, and embrace AIADA's advocacy efforts. Whenever we have asked, you have traveled to D.C., called your senators, written your representatives, and voted with your hearts.
Now I have one more request.
In August, Congress will adjourn for a District Work Period lasting approximately one month. Senators and Representatives will return to their states districts, but not for vacation. Their days will be packed with speeches, appearances, and town hall meetings - all designed to connect the legislator with his or her constituents.
It is imperative that international nameplate dealers have a presence during this period. In many communities, the local dealership is the largest single tax base. We dealers employ local residents, support local charities and sports teams, and have a very visible profile on TV and radio. Legislators WANT to meet with us. They want to speak to our employees, and they want to know what we need from them to keep our business open.
So what's stopping you from clicking here and inviting a legislator to your dealership?
AIADA will handle all the details. We will contact the legislator's office, plan the entire meeting, provide you with talking points, and even arrange for press coverage. Rest assured each visit is tailored to your specific interests and needs. AIADA will make sure you have a trouble-free opportunity to speak to your legislator face-to-face and promote the interests of the industry you love.
