John Roberts

On May 7, 2014, AIADA honored Manchester, Tenn., auto dealer John Roberts with its Legislative Action Network (L.A.N.) Grassroots Award at the association’s 8thAnnual International Auto Industry Summit in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes his advocacy in reaching out and engaging Congress and other policy makers on issues important to the international nameplate auto dealer community.

Roberts has been a dealer for over 30 years. In 1977, he and his father bought the Datsun/Nissan dealership in Manchester, Tenn. He went on to become dealer principal in 1983 after graduating from Lipscomb University and added a Toyota franchise to his dealership operation in 1992.

As a dealer, Roberts is an engaged and active advocate for the international nameplate auto retail industry. He regularly meets with his members of Congress and hosts them at his dealership through AIADA’s Dealer Visit Program. In addition to being heavily involved in the auto industry, he is also deeply involved in his community. From 1984 to 1991, he served on the Coffee County Industrial Board, in addition to spending 22 years on the Manchester Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals—including 20 as Chairman.
